La Fontegara MexicoAbout
The second volume contains "fashionable" late-18th-century instrumental music mentioned in probably the oldest catalogue of a music store in America, owned by Padre José Fernández de Jáuregui. The more than 400 authors included in the repertoire are mostly German/English, French and Spanish composers, with some Italian and local composers. La Fontegara's selection includes J.C. Bach, F.X. Richter, C.F. Abel, F. Devienne, Luis Misón and fortepiano solo Sonata quinta del señor Aydem, belonging to the Quaderno Mayner Mexican manuscript.
La Fontegara is one of Mexico’s leading ensembles dedicated to the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music on replicas of original instruments.
The ensemble was formed in 1988 after individual studies in Mexico, Chicago, Boston and The Hague. They have performed extensively in Mexico as well as in Spain, Germany, Central and South America, and in numerous festivals and concert series throughout the United States.
They recorded Sonatas Novohispanas I and II, the interactive CD Resonancia for Urtext Digital Classics, and the CD Godfather for Meridian. Members of La Fontegara are professors at the Facultad de Música of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
La Fontegara México:
- María Díez-Canedo (traverso, recorder)
- Rafael Sánchez Guevara (viola da gamba, baroque cello)
- Eunice Padilla (harpsichord)
- Eloy Cruz (theorbo, baroque guitar)
Guest artist: Vincent Touzet (traverso)
